Turn I’m sorry into thank you

As a recovering people pleaser, sorry was my default every time I felt I was being an inconvenience to someone.

“I’m sorry to disturb you.”
“I’m sorry I’m late.”
“I’m sorry, I’ve been so busy.”
“I’m sorry for taking up your time.”
“I’m sorry to bother you.”
“I’m sorry for missing that error.”

Being sorry all the time will demean your authority, and you’re limiting your power in the conversation. The other challenge with always apologising is that a genuine apology becomes meaningless.

So I turned the “I’m sorry” into “Thank you.”

“Thank you for your time.”
“Thank you for waiting for me.”
“Thank you for your patience.”
“Thank you for the nudge.”
“Thank you for finding some time in your diary.”
“Thank you for catching that issue.”

The difference this minor tweak can make for your confidence is a game changer. Give it a go, and let me know how you get on!
