How are you feeling today?
From the chats I’m having, things seem to be feeling heavy right now. Budgets are being cut, change seems everywhere, resources are tight, and there appears to be conflict everywhere you turn.
All this is contributing to people feeling a bit rubbish.
But how do you manage this feeling?
I love Dr Julie’s work and her book Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before? In there, she shares a sentence:
“We cannot directly choose our emotions and switch them on, but we can use the things we can control to change how we feel.”
Boom ????
Read that sentence again. We can’t directly choose our emotions, but we can use what WE control to change how we feel.
This resonated with me. So when I feel stuck, and my mood is not where I need it to be, I change my environment and what I’m doing.
I slow down my thoughts and do something different. Like taking time to get outside, read a book, change tasks, listen to music, talk to a friend or even journal some of my thoughts.
I also give myself a rating on how my mood is every morning. This helps me identify what I need to do for the rest of the day so I can tip the balance in my favour. For example, if I’m five or below, I make sure I put more breaks in my day to have micro moments of joy.
Find what works for you, but please never fear sharing how you’re doing. It’s important.
So I’m genuinely asking, how are you feeling, and what one thing are you going to do for yourself this weekend?
