Leadership red flags

I love Undercover Boss. I know some of it may be dramatised, but the show demonstrates just how powerful one-to-one conversations can be when people feel safe to share.

I’ve often heard that colleagues don’t usually care much for what some senior leaders have to say. Granted, no one wants to hear from senior leaders if they:

????Are sharing things that don’t resonate
???? Focus on issues that are not relevant to colleagues
???? Keep avoiding uncomfortable questions
???? Act like they know everything and refuse to listen to others

But getting out and talking to colleagues isn’t about the leaders ‘being seen’; it’s about ensuring colleagues have the direction and support they need to deliver their best work.

Remember, leadership isn’t about being the best at everything. It’s about making sure you bring out the best in people. To do that, you must get to know the people you work with and listen to what they say.
